We were delighted to welcome Mairéad McGuinness MEP, Vice-President of the European Parliament, to the school as part of our celebrations to mark Europe Day and the successful completion of our two-year Erasmus+ project on health and well-being for both staff and students.

Ms. McGuinness spoke eloquently to the children about the founding dream of the European Union - all the countries of Europe working together peacefully for each other's benefit - and asked them to remember its importance as they grow up.

She was also treated to a number of dances our children had learned as part of the Erasmus+ project, and some beautiful singing from the school choir. Not exactly a stuffy politician, Ms. McGuinness even joined our musicians Mr. Kelly, Ms. Fahy and Ms. Browne for an impromptu sing-song before she left!

Cúirt Labs

Children from Rang 1 - Rang 6 were in luck this week - everyone had an opportunity to visit the amazing Cúirt Labs in the wonderful Galway Arts Centre on Dominick St.

Featuring writing, reading, drawing, dance, music and interesting discussion, the Labs had something interesting for everyone. It is absolutley fantastic that our children have the opportunity to experience such a range of different cultural activities - all just a short walk up the road, and entirely for free!

Thanks very much to Cúirt and everyone at the Galway Arts Centre for all their work in making this such an enjoyable experience for all the children.

Launching the Peace Run

The mighty Claddagh School Band was on hand to help with the launch of the International Peace Run, which was launched in Eyre Square today. The event, which aims to promote peace and harmony across the world, will see participants run all the way from Galway to Minsk in Belarus.

Ms. Fahy, Mr. Kelly and Ms. Browne were also on hand to perform a piece of music that Ms. Fahy had composed especially for the occasion - she even received a token of appreciation from the organisers!

Well done to all the children who - as always - did us proud.
