At Claddagh National School we are constantly working to improve learning opportunities and outcomes for our children. In the context of our small class sizes, we teach our children based on their individual needs, and provide them with as broad an educational experience as possible.
We follow the Irish Primary School Curriculum, and support teaching and learning with a range of cutting-edge and evidence-based programmes and approaches:
- First Steps Literacy
- Aistear
- Reading Recovery
- Maths Recovery
- Ready, Set, Go Maths
- Using technology to support curricular teaching and learning
Taking advantage of our central location, we also use every opportunity for learning in and about the local environment. Be it for art, science, geography, history, Gaeilge or any other subject, Claddagh School children are often to be seen exploring the streets of Galway City, the beaches of Salthill or the Claddagh itself!
Every child is also given a chance to experience the many events, facilities and programmes on our doorstep here in the centre of Galway. These include:
- Baboró Festival of Children's Theatre
- Galway City Museum
- The Explorer's Marine Education Programme/Galway Atlantaquaria
- TULCA Festival of Visual Art
- NUI, Galway (partnership projects with Depts. of Science, Italian and Psychology)
- Local bookshops and the Galway City Library, especially for International Book Week
- Galway Science and Technology Festival
As well as bringing our children to the world, we also bring the world to our children! Highlights include:
- French and Chinese language classes for senior children
- Regular visits from authors and storytellers
- After-school Drama Club
- Club Gaeilge
